Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG is the world's leading supplier of off-road vehicles for ski slope, beach and environmental maintenance.
Kässbohrer's largest business segment is the PistenBully family. As the world market leader for vehicles for slope and cross-country ski trail grooming and for the construction of fun parks, they are involved in the development, manufacture, sale and servicing of snow groomers. The complementary SNOWsat software was initially developed as a tool for measuring snow depth and today supports optimized and efficient operating processes in ski resorts.
Furthermore, Kässbohrer offers manufacturer-independent training for ski resort managers, snowmaking equipment manufacturers and slope operators in the PRO ACADEMY. They also sell off-road vehicles for beach cleaning, known under the BeachTech brand, as well as PowerBully for use in areas that are difficult to access, for example for forestry or disaster relief.

Successful collaboration since 2015
Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG uses the SBC3-SNOW telematics unit developed by Telic AG in its PistenBully. The telematics unit is part of the SNOWsat monitoring system, in which data such as snow depth and position are summarized and processed into relevant information. For ski slope operators, this means greater efficiency, sustainability and safety when grooming ski slopes. Processes can be made leaner, more stable and more efficient.
The challenge
While the raw material snow and the required energy are becoming increasingly scarce, the costs for this are simultaneously rising.
Snow production and slope grooming cause considerable expenses for slope operators worldwide.
A solution is therefore required that makes the processes as resource-friendly, safe and economical as possible.
The solution
The SNOWsat solution uses a high-precision GNSS localization system to measure the snow depth below the snow groomer with cm accuracy. This determines where snow can be removed and where more snow is needed.
The SBC3-SNOW supplies operating and machine data recorded by sensors, enriched with current position data, to the control centers in real time.
A large number of digital and analog ports also enable remote reading of status information and remote control of the machine.
Direct communication with the control center enables active driver and task management.
SBC3-SNOW has been in use worldwide since 2016.
Customer benefits
High-precision snow depth measurement and snow management enable effective slope preparation and planning of technical snowmaking. Existing snow can now be used optimally.
Thanks to numerous evaluation functions in the SNOWsat system, it offers skiers guidance and therefore greater safety, especially in poor visibility.
Maintenance management is also supported by the data generated. This results in potential cost savings in the maintenance process.
